4x4 JeepsSpending a 3-day weekend crawling over rocks is a good time, but when the travel bug hits, it almost hurts to leave the Jeep at home, doesn't it? Of course, bringing our 4x4 jeeps on the plane would open us up for some astonishing shipping charges, and it's hard to modify them to float, so what are our options? You might be surprised. If, for instance you are planning a vacation to Bali, the Alliance Indonesia website offers day trips and overnight adventures using 4x4 jeeps. No kidding. If you aren't ready to jump through that many time zones, Carnival Cruise Lines has a 4x4 lunchtime excursion on Grand Cayman Island. While far tamer than a Grand Canyon trip, this excursion will still give a jeep aficionado his or her "fix" to get through the rest of the trip. If the Grand Canyon is more your style, there have been both Jeep and mule tours there for years, giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy the scenery and bring home bragging rights. If you want more bragging rights and considerably less familiarity, consider a trip to Turkey. Heritage Travel offers day trips in open-topped 4x4 jeeps to places far and away from the normal "tourist" sites that look nothing like Nevada. Keep in mind that each of these excursions cost a bit extra when added to your tour package, and they are absolutely not available for children who need car seats. Many people go on vacation to "get away from it all", and few of us are blessed to have something we actually don't want to get away from. For those of us who can't take our 4x4 jeeps on vacation, a bit of planning could ensure that we have a jeep waiting for us when we arrive.
