We have put together what we feel is the ultimate 4" short arm 5 link TJ suspension system using only the best parts available from Old Man Emu, Currie Enterprises, JKS Manufacturing, and Rubicon Express.

With other suspension lift kits there are certain components we like, and dislike; with this kit there’s not a single part we don’t like. For coil springs and shocks, we've selected Old Man Emu. OME is world renowned for the ride quality provided by their carefully matched spring and shock combinations engineered to improve vehicle ride quality, handling and control under various loads. The 4" coils will provide plenty of clearance for 33x12.50 tires without a body lift, or 35x12.50 tires with a body lift.

Only premium parts are used throughout the suspension system, and we even allow you to customize the kit to your specific needs by giving you your choice of JKS, Currie, or Rubicon Express control arms, and your choice of Rubicon Express front sway bar disconnects, JKS front sway bar disconnects, or a Currie Anti-Rock Off Road Sway Bar System. These options are explained in detail below.

Front Track Bar Options:
You have the option of the Currie JeepSpeed series Heavy Duty Adjustable Front Track Bar, or the JKS-OGS125 Adjustable Front Track Bar. The Currie JeepSpeed Heavy Duty version uses larger hardware at the axle and frame end which makes for a stronger setup. Both track bars require drilling at the frame, but the Currie JeepSpeed version also requires drilling at the axle housing to utilize the larger hardware. Ultimately the extra drilling isn't a huge deal, and we recommend the Heavy Duty JeepSpeed version for the extra strength. If the extra drilling bothers you, the JKS Track Bar will work just fine.

Front Sway Bar Options:
You have the option of Rubicon Express or JKS sway bar disconnects, or upgrading to a Currie Anti-Rock Off Road Sway Bar. Sway bar disconnects allow you to disconnect the sway bar off road for increase wheel travel, and re-connect the factory sway bar for on road driving to maintain stock-like stability on the highway. If your Jeep is primarily a daily driver, and you place more value on highway manners than off road performance, you'll probably be happier with sway bar disconnects than with the Anti-Rock. In regards to which disconnects to choose between JKS and Rubicon Express that's a tough call. We personally like the frame storage system Rubicon Express utilizes on their disconnects better than the JKS design, and we prefer the Rubicon Express disconnects for that reason. When disconnected the Rubicon Express disconnects are tucked up near the coil spring tower, completely out of the way of the tires. The JKS disconnects on the other hand mount towards the front-center of the frame rail, and sometimes in difficult off road situations your tires can catch the disconnect post and pull the pins out. This doesn't cause any damage, but it may result in lost lynch pins occasionally, which can be purchased at any local hardware store. This is more of a nuisance than anything, and it is only a problem with the JKS disconnects. However, in JKS' favor, the build quality of their disconnects looks a little nicer and their bushings tend to outlast the bushings used on the RE disconnects. Ultimately the RE disconnects work a little better off road, but the JKS disconnects may hold up a little better on road.

For best off road performance we recommend the Currie Anti-Rock upgrade. The Anti-Rock balances the suspension much better off road, providing much more stability in steep, off camber situations. Furthermore it keeps the weight of the vehicle more centered over the tires, which aids in traction. It is just as much of a traction adding device as a stability device. The only drawback is that it drives worse than a stock sway bar connected on road. You can adjust the Anti-Rock to be looser for off road and tighter on road, but even at the tightest setting on road it will have a bit more lean and drive a little worse than the stock sway bar on road. The Anti-Rock upgrade presents a choice between on road vs. off road performance. Sway bar disconnects will perform better on road, but the Anti-Rock has a rather large advantage off road.

Control Arm Options:
You have the option of adjustable upper and lower control arms from Currie Enterprises, Rubicon Express, or JKS Manufacturing. The main differences lie in the joints used on these control arms. JKS's arms utilize rubber bushings at each end, which will hold up the best in the mud, and they will also ride the best on road. Off road these bushings offer the least amount of flex, however the JKS arms have a pivot design which helps the arms to flex some. Ultimately we recommend these arms if on road drivability is your primary concern.

The Rubicon Express arms feature a cartridge joint at one end of the arm, and rubber bushings at the other end to isolate impacts and vibrations from the road. The cartridge joint allows for up to 30 degrees of unrestricted movement in any direction. This means the arm will flex/articulate up to 30 degrees in any direction before the suspension binds. Suspension bind is a bad thing; the factory control arm brackets are weak and prone to failure. Excessive suspension bind is the #1 cause of control arm bracket failure on a Jeep that sees off road use. We recommend the RE arms for the customer who places equal importance on off road and on road performance.

Currie's Johnny Joint control arms feature cartridge joints at both ends of the control arms. This means they allow for the most unrestricted movement of the control arm offerings, however they will also ride slightly firmer on road. It really is a small difference, but the joints will transmit slightly more impact and vibration to the cab. Most people honestly won't even be able to tell a difference, it's VERY small. The Currie arms are the best solution for extreme off road usage, as they will flex far more than either the RE or JKS arms before binding.

All 3 of the control arm designs mentioned above provide for a comfortable on road ride, and they are extremely strong and durable. All 3 designs are also rebuildable. The JKS and Currie arms require a press to rebuild the joints. The Rubicon Express arms are the easiest of the 3 to rebuild as they do not require a press, and Super Flex joint tools are available to aid in assembly/disassembly of the arms.
