Used Off Road Parts

Off-road vehicles tend to break. As a matter of fact, when used as intended, it's likely they will break regularly. Of course, it's not always likely that the broken part is either available or affordable on the day it breaks, so sometimes we have to get resourceful. There are many places online and in town to find used off road parts, and here "used" can mean anything from reconditioned to pulled off a rotting hulk at a junkyard. With the former, you might get a serviceable part with a dubious warranty. With the latter, you're going to be lucky to get the right part in the first place.

Used off road parts are basically a crap shoot. Depending on how much you know about the source for the part and the condition of the vehicle from which it was cannibalized, you might actually get a working part, or you could get an overpriced, greasy door stop. Used parts are practically never guaranteed, so whether the part actually works or not will become your problem.

Reconditioned off road parts could include lights, carburetors or even entire transmissions. Some reconditioned parts are more advisable than others, needless to say. Lights that have been cleaned and rewired will probably be more reliable than a patched tire, particularly when you consider what you're about to do to that tire. If you purchase a reconditioned part, take some time to examine the warranty. These warranties are seldom inclusive and almost never for very long. Settling for a reconditioned part might be a quicker and cheaper option than ordering a new part, but it's not always the best option.

New parts, of course, are far more reliable, almost always come with warranties, but are consequently more expensive.
