RedRock Steering Box Skid Plate Brace (97-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ)

Removing the old 16mm bolt proved a challenge, needed a long torque wrench and some PB Blaster. However, once the two bolts were removed, installing was easy. Worth noting is that the TJ bumper is basically a square tube with a round hole inside, so there is not really a good way to drill that 3rd hole and have anything for the 3rd bolt to hold on to. It seems to work well anyways, looks nice and very solid. Removing the 16mm bolt took a long time, but the rest took maybe 15 minutes.

I ordered this brand of skid plate due to the fact that there were no holes in it depicting the makers brand. Also the lower price helped persuade me. I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality, paint finish, and heavy weight. It fit perfectly on my '06 LJ . The hardest part of the 45 minute install was getting the steering box bolt to come loose. I would highly recommend.

Easy installation, good strong product that has worked for my purpose. Didn’t need to drill the hole into the bumper as the directions recommended. Was strong enough without that extra bolt. Aftermarket bumpers with an angled surface where the hole should be drilled may not sit flush if you decide to drill that hole.
