RedRock Under Seat Lock Box; Large (16-23 Tacoma)

Purchased both the large and small behind seat lock boxes for my 2018 Tacoma double cab. Install was straightforward, although some deflection of the plastic surfaces made it a struggle to hold the part in place while installing screws.

Hardware supplied by manufacturer is completely inadequate for installation. Screws supplied are about 3/16'' long and are oval head wood screws designed for countersunk holes. They will not install flush for this sheet metal application. Pan-head/button-head screws are absolutely required. Made my initial install with #8 x 1/2" pan-head sheet metal screws that I had on hand. 3 of the screw placements were iffy with 1/2'' screw length due to part being slightly undersized. I have ordered #8 x 3/4" pan head with tamperproof torx drive to replace the Phillips drive.

The biggest issue with these lockers is that the max opening with seats folded down is about 5"-6". My rear seats stay folded down 99% of the time as my dog is the primary back seat passenger. The locker doors hinge about 2" too low to open flat with the seat backs down. By lifting the seat backs to 70%, you can get about 3" more inches only, but then you are using 1 hand to hold the seat at the perfect angle. I plan to cut and re-hinge the doors so they open flat.

Overall this is a great lockbox!
I'm constantly transporting gear and tools with my seats down to avoid wrecking the seats. This lockbox does a great job of cleaning up the look of the look of the vehicle in this configuration, and ensuring that everything you have in storage stays there. It's not Fort Knox, and a determined thief could get in, but most car robberies are quick sometimes adding that extra bit of difficulty is all you need.
The crews that bolt his into the storage area are small and go directly into the plastic. The plastic would tear with enough force, like with a crowbar or hammer teeth.
The door also doesn't open a full 90 degrees. The position of the hinges puts them about 2 inches bellow the backrest when it's laid flat, but other than being annoying this doesn't hamper access to the storage space in any meaningful way. For a little over $100, this part does the job and is just about the only option on the market to secure this storage space.

Bought it to keep my purse in it. I like it and would recommend it
